AutoMate 7 comes in two available editions: AutoMate Professional and AutoMate Premium. The following description covers features found in each.
AutoMate™ Professional contains the ability to embed expressions directly into the parameters of task steps. Any valid BASIC expression can be embedded directly into any step parameter, eliminating the need to write an entire BASIC subroutine using the “Run a BASIC Script” action for simple one line data formatting and/or retrieval operations. These operations can now be accomplished “in-line” inside the AutoMate™ task.
/ ELSE Decision Support
Give AutoMate the power to make decisions! AutoMate™ Professional allows for the evaluation of variables and expressions in AutoMate™ tasks and for specific actions to occur as a result of that evaluation through the IF action. The IF action will make this easier and completely code-free (not to also mention it making AutoMate™ even more powerful).
Easy to use loop actions allow you to perform an set of actions repeatedly by looping over: files in a folder, open windows, records in a database, running processes, expression, items in a list and of course a number range.
Connect via OLEDB to any SQL compliant datasource query and take action based on the results using the powerful Loop Dataset and IF actions.
AutoMate™ Professional contains the ability to send e-mail alerts to specific users when a task or specific task step fails. All relevant information is sent (including the date, time, step number and reason for failure). Options for pager message formatting is included as well.
AutoMate™ Professional contains an option to employ a true Win32 Service to monitor trigger conditions and run tasks - even when the system is locked or logged out!
AutoMate Professional offers an additional trigger which allows the file system to be monitored for changes and trigger a task when a for example a file arrives, a file or folder is modified or removed.
AutoMate Professional offers an additional trigger which allows the monitoring of CPU, memory, disk and other important performance thresholds. Tasks can be run when specified "acceptable" performance quotas are not met.
AutoMate Professional contains the ability to be remotely managed over any TCP/IP network - including the Internet.
Scripting Language and function library
AutoMate™ Professional combines scheduling power and application control with a full-featured Visual Basic for Applications compliant scripting language. The scripting engine integrates seamlessly into the existing AutoMate™ framework, appearing as an extra option in the macro builder called 'Run a Script'. In an automated procedure, you may have an unlimited number of 'script' steps, making decisions, handling complex File I/O routines, etc. The added flexibility of the AutoMate™ BASIC Scripting Language is that an unlimited number of customized 'AutoMate™' oriented commands can be added to the language to make life (and automation) easier for you.
We have already added several new automate-centric commands, such as extensions of the BASIC scripting language and regularly release periodic AutoMate™ BASIC scripting language extension updates that are free to all registered users of AutoMate™ Professional.
AutoMate Premium contains all the features of AutoMate Professional plus the following premium features:
AutoMate Premium is ideal for the networked environment. With AutoMate Premium, administrators can build tasks on one machine and quickly deploy it to remote AutoMate Runtime licenses (sold separately) for remote execution. Remote Runtime installations have no user interface, they simply reside on remote machines and execute tasks as directed by AutoMate Premium developers. Licensing remote Runtime installations is more manageable and more affordable than installing separate full installations of AutoMate on every machine. Contact Network Automation for more information.
Terminal Emulation Support
AutoMate Premium contains a new group of actions called "Terminal". These actions allow direct automation of your terminal-based applications over SSH and Telnet. AutoMate Enterprise supports terminal emulation standards such as TTY, VT100, VT220, VT320, and ANSI natively. This functionality eliminates the need for separate terminal emulation software and cumbersome "screen-scraping" allowing AutoMate to get and set text in a terminal session directly.
SNMP is the Internet standard protocol developed to manage nodes (servers, workstations, routers, switches and hubs etc.) on an IP network. AutoMate Premium natively supports SNMP Get, SNMP Set, SNMP Walk and SNMP traps allowing complete automation of a network infrastructure. SNMP also enables integration of AutoMate with products such as Microsoft MOM and others.
A set of 15 Active Directory actions are included in AutoMate Premium which are ideal for Administrators and IT Managers. With the new Active Directory actions, time consuming and repetitive procedures, such as the creation, modification or removal of Active Directory objects, groups or users can now be automated, reducing the burden of IT Administration, while increasing the productivity of users.
MSMQ (Microsoft Message Queuing) technology enables applications running at different times to communicate across heterogeneous networks and systems that may be temporarily offline. Applications send messages to queues and read messages from queues. AutoMate Premium has the capability to automate MSMQ operations, including the ability to send, retrieve, clear or wait for MSMQ messages as well as the capability to create or delete a message queue.
All events including task management activities are logged and can be viewed in the built-in event viewer.
NOTE: These features are designed to offer greater flexibility and implementation options to the businesses that require them. While not every company will need the robustness of the Premium Edition, it will prove invaluable to those requiring support for legacy applications or seeking to automate beyond just a single desktop.
