Importing Tasks

AutoMate 7 supports the import of AutoMate task files which contain a .aml (AutoMate Markup Language) extension. A task can be imported using the Task Administrator or steps of a task can be imported using the Task Builder. Additionally, you can export AutoMate 6 and AutoMate BPA Server tasks and import them to AutoMate 7. Tasks can be imported via "drag and drop" or by use of the Import option.

Importing tasks from the Task Administrator

Using the Drag and Drop Method

AML file types can be imported to the Task Administrator using the Drag and Drop feature. Instructions to import files via this method are as follows:

 

  1. Open the Task Administrator

  2. Drag the desired AML file(s) from its original location and drop them into the Task Administrator's Managed Tasks window pane.  

  3. The Task Administrator becomes populated with the newly imported tasks. When a managed task is imported, triggers and other task properties will be included.

Using the Import Option

An Import option is contained in the Task Administrator that can be used to import tasks. Instructions to import files via this method are as follows:

 

  1. Open the Task Administrator

  2. From the File menu in the Task Administrator, select Import or right-click anywhere inside the Managed Tasks window and select Import from the right-click menu. A dialog titled Select Task appears, as shown below:

 

  1. Navigate to the location of the task (.AML) file(s) you want to import, select the desired file(s) and click Open.

  2. The Task Administrator becomes populated with the newly imported tasks. When a managed task is imported, triggers and other task properties will be included.

Importing task steps from the Task Builder

Using the Drag and Drop Method

AML file types can be imported to the Task Builder using the Drag and Drop feature. Instructions to import files via this method is explained below:

 

  1. Open the Task Builder

  2. Drag the desired AML file(s) from its original location and drop them into the Task Builder's Steps window pane.  

  3. The Task Builder's Steps pane becomes populated with the newly imported task steps.

  4. Edit the steps as necessary and go to File -> Save to save the task.

Using the Import Option

An Import option is contained in the Task Builder that can be used to import the steps of a task. Instructions to import files via this method is as follows:

 

  1. Open the AutoMate Task Builder.

  2. From the Edit menu in the Task Builder, select Import Steps... A dialog titled Select Task appears, as shown above.

  1. Navigate to the location of the task (.AML) file you want to import steps from and click Open.

  2. The steps of the selected task are loaded onto the Task Builder's Steps pane.

  1. Edit the steps as necessary and go to File -> Save to save the task.
