The SNMP Get Next action is used to send a Get Next message to an SNMP agent to inspect the value of an SNMP variable. It is used following an SNMP Get step or a previous SNMP Get Next step, to retrieve the value of the next OID in the tree.
From the Task Builder Available Actions pane, open the SNMP folder and double-click the SNMP Get Next action or drag it into the Steps pane.
In the Agent IP address field located in the General tab properties, enter the IP address or host name of the agent to communicate with.
In the Variable name box, enter the Object Identifier (OID) for the SNMP variable to request. This can be in either numeric or string notation format.
In the Community box, enter the SNMP community.
In the Create and populate dataset box, enter the name of a dataset to be created and populated with the results of the request.
Select the Advanced tab.
If you want to use a different TCP/IP port than the default 161, enter it in the Remote port box.
If you want to specify a time out, enter the value and select the increment in the Time out after boxes. If the action is not complete before this time elapses, the step fails. The default is 30 seconds.
If you are using a broadcast address, enter the value and increment for the broadcast delay in the Broadcast delay boxes. The default is three seconds.
In the SNMP version box, select the SNMP version to use. The default is version 1.
If you want to use numeric notation for OIDs or time tick values, click the Data tab and clear the applicable check boxes. By default, string notation is used.
To set the Description tab properties, please refer to Description Tab Options.
To set the Error Causes and On Error tab properties, please refer to Step Error Handling.
When finished, click OK to save settings and close the properties dialog window.
