The POP3 E-mail action is used to retrieve e-mail message from a POP3 mail box. You can retrieve just message headers, complete messages, or complete messages plus attachments. The messages are stored in a dataset, and can either be left on the server or removed.
You can also use this action to simply delete one or all messages from the server.
From the Task Builder Available Actions pane, open the Internet folder and double-click the POP3 E-mail action or drag it into the Steps pane.
In the Action to take box, select the action to perform. The options are:
Get all headers: retrieves only the date, subject, to, and from information from each message.
Get all messages: retrieves complete messages.
Get single message: retrieves a single message, which you must specify by number. You can determine message numbers by first retrieving message headers.
Delete all messages: deletes all messages from the server.
Delete single message: deletes a single message, which you must specify by number. You can determine message numbers by first retrieving message headers.
Enter the Host, User name, and Password.
If you need change the port number, make your entry in the Port box. The default port is 110.
The remaining General properties are disabled or enabled depending on the action selected. The selections are as follows:
Remove mail from server: deletes message from server. If messages are retrieved, and this is not selected the same messages will remain on the server and be retrieved again if the Get all messages action is repeated.
Save attachments: saves attachments in the location designated in the Attachments tab. If you download all messages and select Remove mail from server, all attachments will be lost unless this option is selected.
Message number: This is the sequential number of a single message among the messages on the mail server. This property is only used in conjunction with Get single message or Delete single message. The number can be obtained by downloading the message headers.
Populate dataset with e-mail: Enter a name for the dataset to be populated with the downloaded data. You can then access the data using this dataset name by placing it between percent signs in subsequent actions (%datasetname.fieldname%).
If you are retrieving messages and saving attachments, click the Attachments tab and enter the properties as follows:
In the Save attachments in folder box, enter the path and file name where you want to save the attachments, or click the Open Folder button and navigate to the location.
Under If file name already exists select one of the following: Do not save, Save with a unique file name, Overwrite existing files.
If you do not want to use the default proxy server as entered in Task Administrator System Options, click the Proxy tab and select an alternate setting in the Proxy type box. The options are None, Socks4, Socks4a, or Socks5. If you select any option other than None, enter the properties as follows:
In the Proxy host box, enter the host name or IP address for the proxy server.
Change the proxy port number if needed. The default proxy port is 1028.
If you are using Socks5 and want to use authentication, select the Use authentication check box, and enter the user ID and password.

When finished, click OK to save settings and close the properties dialog window.
