Open Workbook Action—Setting Properties

The Open Workbook action is used to open an Excel workbook and assign it a session name for use with other AutoMate Excel steps.

Note: You must have Microsoft Excel licensed and installed on your system to use any of the AutoMate Excel actions.

To set Open Workbook properties

  1. From the Task Builder Available Actions pane, open the Excel folder and double-click the Open Workbook action or drag it into the Steps pane.

  2. In the Workbook box, click the Open Folder button , navigate to the desired workbook, and click Open.

  3. In the Session name box, use the default entry unless you have already created one or more Excel sessions in the task. If you have multiple Excel sessions, give each one a unique name, such as ExcelSess1, ExcelSess2, etc.

  4. If you want to open the workbook in the background without displaying the Excel window, click Workbook is invisible.

  5. To set the Description tab properties, refer to Description Tab Options.

  6. To set the Error Causes and On Error tab properties, refer to Step Error Handling.

  7. When finished, click OK to save settings and close the properties dialog window.
