Get Cell Action—Setting Properties

The Get Cell action is used to populate a variable with the contents of a cell from an Excel workbook that is open in an AutoMate Excel session. An Excel session must be created in an earlier step using the Open Workbook or Create Workbook actions.

Note: You must have Microsoft Excel licensed and installed on your system to use any of the AutoMate Excel actions.

To set Get Cell properties

  1. From the Task Builder Available Actions pane, open the Excel folder and double-click the Get Cell action or drag it into the Steps pane.

  2. In the Session name box, enter the session name. If your task has only one Excel session and you did not change the default session name when you created it (recommended), you can use the default entry.

  3. In the Populate variable box, select the variable to populate.

  4. To select the cell by position, enter the row and column numbers in the applicable boxes. To select the cell by its Excel reference (such as A1 or B5), click Cell by reference and enter the reference in the Cell reference box.

  5. To use a worksheet other than the currently active one, click Use specific worksheet and enter the worksheet name in the corresponding box.

  6. To set the Description tab properties, refer to Description Tab Options.

  7. To set the Error Causes and On Error tab properties, refer to Step Error Handling.

  8. When finished, click OK to save settings and close the properties dialog window.
