Does the Archimedean Point Exist? Or, What Would Yelp say about AutoMate?

Yelp and other social networking review sites disdain that old notion of the "objective observer" as conceived by that Greek from ancient Syracuse, Archimedes. In fact, they sponsor seat-of-the-pants, visceral likes and dislikes, rendered into 5-star ratings. Well, the Internet allows society to employ a Cloud-based app like Yelp to economically deliver a "crowd sourcing" approach that provides (hopefully) meaningful observation and opinion. Often times, however, we IT professionals require opinion and analysis born from deeper investigation and more weight than “was the food good,” or the "service shoddy." But, when?

"When" is when the ramifications of a mistake are significant, or when you are likely to live with your decision for a long time. Choosing the right automation software for your enterprise, for example, has a longer term impact than selecting which movie to see Saturday night. Under those conditions, there is a desire to consider an Archimedean Point approach, which basically says "let me consider this from all angles," and manage the decision with subject-matter-expertise in hand.

The IT analysts at Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) took a hard look at our latest software release, Version 8 of both AutoMate and AutoMate BPA Server. You can read on their website that "EMA goes 'beyond the surface' to provide deep insight across the full spectrum of IT and data management technologies." So, we are not likely to ask EMA whether Pinkberry is good or good for you, but we felt it would be useful to know what an independent IT management observer, who's been looking critically at software since 1996, had to say.
