University of Texas MD. Anderson Cancer Center selects Network Automation to Integrate its business applications
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AutoMate Improves the Management and Staffing of More Than 2,700 Nurses
Los Angeles, California, May 2, 2006
Network Automation, Inc., the leader in automation software, today announced the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas in Houston is employing Network Automation's AutoMate 6.1 to integrate three critical business process systems: nurse staffing, time and attendance, and human resource. AutoMate 6.1 is a comprehensive software tool for IT managers of all levels to easily create, deploy and manage any automation task to streamline and integrate IT systems and business processes.
The M.D. Anderson Cancer Center developed and deployed more than 80 automation tasks with AutoMate. These tasks interact with backend databases and automate the reporting processes to keep files and data between critical applications synchronized. Every application and task is backed up for disaster recovery purposes. AutoMate is central to managing M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's staff, by orchestrating critical applications, including the coordination of thousands of file and data transfers.
"In past efforts, the Cancer Center tried to combine separate job scheduling/triggering tools with an automation tool, until we found a single solution from AutoMate," said Juan Garcia, systems analyst, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. "We have experienced a 650% return on investment from hard-cost savings due to the wide implementation of AutoMate, which does not include all the soft-costs saved with optimal nurse staffing, fewer administrative hassles, and ability to deliver better patient care."
AutoMate 6.1 provides secure log-in and access with enhanced security features, such as password and task encryption. Additionally, AutoMate enables e-mails and text messages to be sent to IT personnel with timely and relevant information regarding the status of automated tasks to correct any error almost immediately. The M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's IT staff spends less time overseeing these tasks and no longer needs to work nights or weekends.
"A major benefit of AutoMate is its flexibility and versatility, which allows the Cancer Center to set up a more dynamic system architecture for application and system integration," said Dustin Snell, CEO of Network Automation. "IT personnel can now change a single setting rather than pore through and edit thousands of lines of code. This has dramatically decreased the time it takes to develop and deploy cost-saving functionality."
M. D. Anderson Cancer Center has established an international reputation as one of the world's pre-eminent centers for cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. A multidisciplinary treatment approach and dedication to translational research, education and prevention are hallmarks of M. D. Anderson. Consistently ranked one of the top two cancer centers in the United States by U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" -- including number one in four of the past five years -- M. D. Anderson has provided care for more than 600,000 cancer patients since 1944 and 70,000 in the last year alone.
