Description

VM (Virtual Machine) is a widely-installed operating system for mainframes from IBM that can host other operating systems, including MVS and Conversational Monitor System (CMS), so that each of the operating systems seems to have its own complete system of software and hardware resources (data storage, telecommunications, processor, and so forth). AutoMate's VM (Virtual Machine) operations encompass a variety activities that allows you to automate many common virtual machine management operations. You can connect to a host, register or unregister a Virtual Machine, start, resume or suspend a Virtual Machine, take snapshots, revert to a previous snapshot and many more.

Available Activities

The following table briefly describes the available activities for this action. Click the appropriate link for more details regarding each activity.

Activity
Description

VM Operations - Clone

Creates a clone (copy) of an existing virtual machine. When the cloning operation is complete, the clone is a separate virtual machine.

VM Operations - Connect

Connects to the specified host and creates a session in which to associate subsequent VM steps.

VM Operations - Create Snapshot

Creates a snapshot of an existing virtual machine. A snapshot records virtual machine conditions at the time of the snapshot, including the virtual machine's power state and data written to virtual disks.

VM Operations - Delete

Permanently deletes a virtual machine from your host system.

VM Operations - Delete Snapshot

Deletes an existing virtual machine snapshot.

VM Operations - Disconnect

Disconnects a virtual machine connection and ends a previously established session.

VM Operations - Install Tools

Installs VMWare Tools. VMware Tools is a suite of utilities that enhances virtual machine operations and improves management of the virtual machine.

VM Operations - List Registered VMs

Gathers all registered virtual machines and populates a dataset with the results.

VM Operations - List Running VMs

Retrieves all running virtual machines and populates a dataset with the results.

VM Operations - List Snapshots

Retrieves all snapshots and populates a dataset with the results.

VM Operations - Pause

Pauses the current session.

VM Operations - Power Off

Powers off the specified virtual machine.

VM Operations - Power On

Powers on the specified virtual machine.

VM Operations - Register VMs

Registers the specified virtual machine.

VM Operations - Reset

Resets the specified virtual machine.

VM Operations - Revert to Snapshots

Reverts to an existing virtual machine snapshot.

VM Operations - Suspend

Suspends a virtual machine allowing fast restart via the start command.

VM Operations - Unpause

Unpauses a paused virtual machine.

VM Operations - Unregister VM

Unregisters a registered virtual machine from the specified host system.
