Exporting Repository Objects

Repository objects can be exported into an ”AutoMate Package” file (.ampkg extension). This file can then be imported into another BPA Server environment. (i.e. a specific Agent or machine or BPA installed on a separate network). AutoMate Package files can contain one or more repository items within the same file. These items n consist of workflows, tasks, events conditions and created folder structures. There are two methods in which to properly export repository items; via ”r;drag and drop” or by use of the Export option. Instructions regarding both methods are explained below:

Export Via Drag and Drop

The option to export files via the drag and drop method is very simple. However, it does not provide the flexibility to name the file in which to export. Instead, BPA Server 7 automatically names the file that's being exported.

  1. From within the Repository or Workflows section of the SMC, select the desired objects to export. Selection of multiple objects can be performed by holding down the CTRL key during selection. Objects become highlighted upon selection.

  2. Drag the highlighted items to the desktop or any desired folder as shown below.

Export Using the ’Export’ Option

Using the Export option is, not as simple as using the drag-and-drop feature, however, it allows the user to name the file being exported.

  1. From within the Repository or Workflows section of the SMC, select the desired object(s) (i.e. workflows, tasks, conditions or created folders) in which to export. Selection of multiple objects can be performed by holding down the CTRL key during selection. Objects become highlighted upon selection.

  2. Select More -> Export as shown below or simply right-click the highlighted object(s) and select Export from the popup menu.

  1. A dialog window titled Export appears prompting a package name and location in which to save the item(s), as shown below. The File name field will contain a name similar to this:

’r;Exported BPA Conditions [4 items].ampkg’

However, it can be renamed as long as the extension stays the same.

  1. Select the location and enter the desired name for the file and click Save to complete the export process. The package is then created in the specified location with the file name selected containing all the repository items selected.

NOTE:  Individual BPA Server 7 tasks can be saved as AutoMate Markup Language (.aml extension) files when saved from the Task Builder interface by selecting File  -> Save As or Save Copy As.
