Migration from Previous Versions

How to Upgrade from AutoMate 8 or 8

Upgrading from AutoMate 8 or 8 to AutoMate BPA Server 9 is a painless process. AutoMate BPA Server 9's AML (Automation Markup Language) implementation is backward compatible so that tasks made in AutoMate 9 will run without modification in AutoMate BPA Server 9. In addition, the Server Management Console supports importing all AutoMate 9 exported file formats, including AutoMate 8 Backup files.  AutoMate BPA Server 9 is designed to run side-by-side with AutoMate 9.x allowing migration at your own pace.

To move individual tasks from AutoMate 9.x to AutoMate BPA Server 9, simply export the task from AutoMate 9.x then import into AutoMate BPA Server 9. When all tasks are tested and moved from AutoMate 8 it can be uninstalled and the upgrade to AutoMate BPA Server 9 is complete.

To migrate an entire AutoMate 9 configuration (all tasks, triggers, and folder structure) to AutoMate BPA Server 9 at one time, create a backup file of your AutoMate 9 installation by using the Backup... menu option in the AutoMate 9 Task Administrator.  Then. import the backup file into AutoMate BPA Server 9.

To migrate from AutoMate BPA Server 9 version 7 or 8 to AutoMate BPA Server 9, see Exporting Repository Objects and Importing Items to the Repository.
