Creating a Task Without the Wizard

The Add Task wizard helps guide you through the steps of creating a task. However, once you have created a few tasks and become more familiar with AutoMate, you may find it faster to bypass the wizard.

To Disable the Add Task Wizard:

Ensure the Add Task wizard is inactive, by doing one of the following:

  1. From Task Administrator, click the New button located in the tool-bar. This should start the Add Task Wizard.

  2. In the "Welcome to AutoMate" screen, add a check to the option In the future, do not use this wizard (circled below), then click Cancel to close the Wizard.

  1. Or, on the Task Administrator System menu, click Options.

  2. In the General tab of the Options dialog, clear the Use wizard when creating new tasks box (shown below) then click OK.

To create a task without the Add Task wizard:

  1. On the Task Administrator tool-bar, click New (circled below). A new task icon appears.

  1. Type a unique name for the task.

  2. To add a trigger or set other properties for the new task, select the task and click the Properties tool-bar button or right-click the task and select Properties from the right-click menu. For more information see Setting Task Properties. After setting task properties, steps can be added by selecting the General tab and clicking the Edit Steps button.

Or

To directly add steps to the task and bypass adding a trigger and setting task properties, select the task and click the Steps tool-bar button or right-click the task and select Steps from the right-click menu.

  1. Once in the Task Builder add the steps of the task.

  2. Click Update and Close.

  3. Click OK to close the Task Properties dialog box.

To Disable the Add Task Wizard:

Ensure the Add Task wizard is inactive, by doing one of the following:

  1. From Task Administrator's Navigation pane, select Tasks.

  2. Click the New button located in the header panel. This should start the Add Task Wizard.

  3. In the "Welcome to AutoMate" screen, add a check to the option In the future, do not use this wizard (shown below), then click Cancel to close the Wizard.

  1. Or, from the Task Administrator's Navigation pane, select Options -> Preferences -> Miscellaneous.

  2. Clear the Use wizard when creating new tasks option (circled below) then click Apply.

To create a task without the Add Task wizard:

  1. On the Task Administrator's Tasks section, click the New button located on the header panel. A new task is added to the Managed Tasks pane.

  1. Right-click the task and select Rename then type a unique name for the task.

  1. To add a trigger or set other properties for the new task, right-click the task and select Properties or simply double-click it. For more on setting properties, see Setting Task Properties.

  2. To add steps to the task, right-click it and select Steps. For more on adding task steps, see Adding Task Steps.

  3. Upon completing task steps, select Update and Close to save settings and close the Task Builder.
