What's New in AutoMate

New in Version 8

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Amazon Web Services has provided companies of all sizes with an infrastructure web services platform in the cloud. With the new AWS actions, you can manage your infrastructure without compromising scalability, security, or dependability by automating the most common AWS solutions, such as backup and storage, application and media hosting, web services, content delivery, databases, high performance computing and enterprise IT. AutoMate AWS actions that fully enable cloud automation are:

VMware Automation

The new VMware actions contain a library of activities that allow you to automate virtual machine operations on VMware Server or VMware Workstation, enabling complete automation of your virtualization platform. AutoMate's VM  activities are categorized into normal VM and Host VM operations. Virtual machine related operations include connecting to a host, registering virtual machines, starting or resuming a virtual machine, installing VMware Tools in a virtual machine, powering off or suspending a virtual machine, taking a snapshot and reverting to a snapshot. Common guest OS operations include the ability to copy files to/from a guest OS, retrieve a list of directories, running processes or environment variables from the guest OS, create directories, rename files, run programs, run scripts and much more.

Microsoft SharePoint Automation

Microsoft SharePoint is emerging as one of the more powerful tools for companies that need to design and implement enterprise-scale solutions to meet business-critical needs, such as managing content, administering business processes and streamlining how people find and share information across the network. AutoMate's SharePoint module is composed of a full range of activities that allow automation of document management, workflow design and collaboration, which helps teams stay connected and productive by providing easy access to the people, documents, and information that can help in decision making and getting work done. With the use of AutoMate's SharePoint activities, organizations have the power to automate the creation of sites, create groups, manage role assignments, create lists and add items or attachments  to those lists, get item details, download files, and much more.

Automation of Web operations

The web interface places very few limits on client functionality. In addition, browser applications typically require little or no disk space and no upgrade procedure since all new features are implemented on the server. As a result, more and more of today's organizations are migrating to web-based applications. With AutoMate's new Web Browser activities, you can create  intelligent web automation tasks and processes that perform common to complex web based operations, such as web navigation, data transfer, web data extraction, reports downloads, data placement and much more.

AS2 (Applicability Statement 2)

Document exchange requires more than just moving data over a wire. Because business documents are the basis not only of business planning and operations, but also the legal obligations between companies, the documents must be transferred securely, processed quickly and delivered reliably. AS2 is one of a small number of emerging standards that addresses these requirements.

AS2 (Applicability Statement 2) is a specification for EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) between organizations using HTTP or HTTPS to transmit data over the Internet. The AS2 standard allows businesses to use a common, single communications solution for added security and elimination of complexities and costs involved when different businesses in a network use different transfer protocols. Security is achieved by using digital certificates and encryption. AutoMate's AS2 activities allows you to build tasks that automate the most common EDI/AS2 operations such as Create Message, Decode/Verify Message, Send Message and Verify Receipt.

Execution Calendar

The Execution Calendar provides a timetable format that supplies detailed information about the results of previously executed workflows as well as ones that are scheduled to run in the future (with the use of a Schedule condition). The Task Execution Calendar's format is similar to MS Office Calendar's design, which enables you to quickly select a day, week, or month to view in the main viewing area. Dates that are displayed in bold type indicate that there is at least one task item for that day.

Task Builder Ribbon

If you are familiar with older versions of AutoMate, the most significant and noticeable transformation you will observe in the new Task Builder is that standard menus and toolbars have been replaced with the Ribbon, a contextual interface designed to help you quickly find the commands that you need to perform during task construction. The Ribbon spans the top of Task Builder and is filled with graphical representations of control elements which are grouped by different functionality. Commands are organized in logical groups, which are collected together under operation related tabs. The Ribbon brings the most common commands to the forefront, in plain sight, so you no longer have to roam aimlessly through the clutter of menus, submenus and toolbars searching for what you want. Enlarging or maximizing the Task Builder window auto-expands the Ribbon vertically.

Regions in Task Builder are a great way to manage and separate sections of your task. With regions, you can categorize specific steps of your task based on some common functionality. You can use regions to better organize your task by expanding the steps that you need to focus on while the rest may be collapsed and hidden from view. Regions are particularly handy when your task contains a significantly large amount of steps that you may wish to format into sections.

My Actions Panel

The Task Builder's My Actions panel puts recently used actions, your favorite actions and actions you use the most often within easy reach. That way, you don't have to remember or type anything. Just select the My Actions tab and select the desired action from your Favorites, Recent or Popular list.

Task Functions & Variables

AutoMate has a new way of organizing and structuring tasks allowing greater code reusability with the use of Task Functions and Task Variables. Task Functions have the ability to provide logical structure to an otherwise disorganized collection of task steps or statements as well as supply variable protection and modularity. The Task Builder's Steps pane supplies a new panel that allows you to define functions with arguments and access attributes. Task variables are visible to all functions within a task. They provide a means of sharing common data between more than one function. The Task Builder's Steps pane contains a new panel that allows you add, edit and delete task variables.

Multi-Activity Action Framework

Many actions are now activities consolidated into a single action. For example, individual FTP actions such as FTP Logon, FTP Upload, FTP Download, etc. are now activities combined into a single FTP action. This better organizes actions into easy to locate blocks of functionality.

Improved Compression Engine

AutoMate's Compress Files and Decompress Files actions now supports compressing and decompressing files over 2GB in size. The improved compression engine also supports newer operating systems with UAC (User Account Control) enabled.
