Send Keystrokes Action—Setting Properties

The Send Keystrokes action is used to send keystrokes to the currently focused window. This can be a text message, function key presses, or keyboard shortcut combinations. You can either simulate key presses or, for text, paste a combination of keystrokes. (Special keystrokes such as ALT and CTRL, cannot be pasted.)

To set Send Keystrokes properties

  1. From the Task Builder Available Actions pane, open the Interactivity folder and double-click the Send Keystrokes action or drag it into the Steps pane.

  2. If you are going to use the keystrokes for text only, select Paste characters if desired. Otherwise leave the default setting, Simulate keypress. Paste characters enters all keystrokes as a single action, which is usually preferable for text, particularly if long.

  3. Type the keystrokes into the Keystrokes box. To enter special characters use one of the following methods:

  4. Click the Advanced tab and make your selections as follows:

  5. To set the Description tab properties, refer to Description Tab Options.

  6. To set the Error Causes and On Error tab properties, refer to Step Error Handling.

  7. When finished, click OK to save settings and close the properties dialog window.
